I’ve never really been into podcasts.
Not because I don’t like them. Not because I have anything against them. I just… never got into them.
Which feels a little strange to admit these days because it seems like everyone has a favourite podcast. Every YouTuber I watch talks about the podcast they listen to on the way to work, while they’re at the gym, or while they’re making dinner. Almost every interview I watch on YouTube ends with, “You can also listen to this episode wherever you get your podcasts.” And every single time I hear that, I find myself thinking… maybe I should actually give podcasts a proper try.
The funny thing is, I have watched plenty of podcast videos on YouTube. But for some reason, I don’t really count those. To me, that’s just watching a long interview. I’m talking about podcasts in the traditional sense, where you press play, put your phone away, and just… listen. I’ve never really done that.
Maybe it’s because I’m such a visual person. I love reading books. I watch Netflix. I spend far too much time on YouTube. Social media is obviously part of my day as well. I like seeing things. Maybe that’s why listening has never naturally become part of my routine. Or maybe I’ve simply never stopped to think about it.
Then there’s the practical side of it. People always say they listen to podcasts during their commute, but that’s never really applied to me. If you know me, you’ll know I’m usually either walking somewhere because I tend to live right in the city centre, or I’m in an Uber if it’s a little further away. Before I know it, I’ve arrived. So there goes the commute.
Then I started thinking about the evenings. That’s usually when I’m reading a book before bed. Before that, I’m probably catching up on messages or scrolling through social media for a little while. By the time I’ve finished reading, it’s time to sleep. So where exactly does a podcast fit into my day?

Honestly, I’ve never really stopped to think about it until now.
The thought only crossed my mind because I was watching a YouTube video the other day, and the creator casually mentioned a podcast they listen to every single morning. It made me realise I’d somehow gone all these years without ever properly exploring an entire type of content that millions of people absolutely love. It’s funny how something can exist all around you, and yet somehow never become part of your own life.
Maybe that’s what I’ll have to do. Just intentionally make time for it. Put my phone away, put my headphones on, and actually sit there for half an hour listening to one. It sounds strange saying that out loud because I know that’s exactly what millions of people already do every day. I’ve just somehow never been one of them.
So now I’m curious.
Do you listen to podcasts?
If you do, what kind are you into? Are there any you’d recommend to someone who’s basically a podcast beginner? And perhaps more importantly, when do you actually listen to them? I’d genuinely love to know how podcasts fit into your day because maybe that’s the part I’m missing.
I’m open to recommendations, whether they’re about travel, books, food, current affairs, funny conversations, or just people chatting about life. And if you have any tips on how podcasts naturally fit into your day, I’d love to hear those too. I have a feeling I might be overthinking the whole thing, but maybe all it takes is pressing play.
A slightly different post from what I usually write, but I quite enjoyed sharing this random thought with you. Here’s to trying something new.
Have a wonderful day, wherever you are.
